West Cork is the most south westerly part of Ireland and consists of a series of long peninsulas and islands jutting out into the Atlantic Gulf Stream. It is justifiably famous both for its beauty and the friendliness and hospitality of its inhabitants. It is a very cosmopolitan region, with many incomers from Europe and the USA having made their homes in this happy land.
Schull is 90 minutes by road to the West of Cork City. It is a fully functioning fishing village situated on the southern slope of Mount Gabriel at the head of a spectacular sheltered harbour. Famous for its craic (the ability to turn anything into a party), there are many opportunities to eat and drink well, and exceptional accommodation can be had at every price level.
We have more than our fair share of artists, musicians, actors, writers, and photographers, living in the area, and Schull supports a very successful Arts festival every summer. In addition, Baltimore hosts a famous annual Irish traditional music festival, with performers coming from all over the world, and Bantry hosts the world class Chamber Music Festival, the West Cork Literary Festival, and the Masters of Tradition event.
The Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival will host events, screenings and workshops in several different venues;
The Cinemobile (www.cinemobile.net),
The Harbour View Hotel (www.harbourviewhotelschull.com)
Schull Parish Hall.
