There are three significant competitions in the Festival, two open to entrants over the age of 18 and the Fastnet Young Filmmaker Competition for filmmakers aged 22 years or younger. Prizes will be awarded as follows:-
The Best of Festival - €2,000 (open to ALL filmmakers and all nationalities - over the age of 18 on 30th March 2012).
Best Irish Short Film – €2,000 – (Filmmaker must Irish, or have worked with an Irish Production Company, and must be over 18 years on 30th March 2012 )
Best Young Filmmaker – €2,000 (open to ALL filmmakers and all nationalities – aged 22 years or younger on 30th March 2012)
Category Awards – €200 for each of the following categories – Best Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Dance (open to ALL filmmakers of all nationalities over the age of 18 on 30th March 2012)
Additional Awards - €100 for each of the following – Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Original Music and Best Cinematography (open to ALL filmmakers and all nationalities over the age of 18 on 30th March 2012)
Please note that each entry is for one category ONLY. The categories are Best Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation, Experimental and Dance. If you wish to enter two , i.e. Drama and Comedy etc, then two entries will have to be made and the entry fee will have to be paid twice.
If a filmmaker is aged between 18 – 22 on 30th March 2012 and wishes to enter both the Young Filmmaker Competition and any of the Over 18 Categories, then they may do so with the same film (look at rules…add numerical increment in brackets after the name of the film…ie New Film (1), New Film (2), provided they pay the fee for each separate competition. In this case there would be no need to submit additional copies of the film or the film’s promotional material.
Please enclose the additional material in the presspack of your WAB application.
- A brief synopsis of your film.
- Evidence of permission where non original material is used in the film ie non original Music or Film material.
Please note that only films completed on or after 1st January 2010 are eligible for entry into our festival competitions

After you have uploaded your Secure Online Screener to Withoutabox, wait for us to contact you. If you are selected, we will invite you to upload to us, or if you prefer, to send us DVDs of your film. The maximum running time should be 15 minutes excluding titles provided the titles run for no more than 1 extra minute.
If you are sending us DVDs, please pack your material carefully in a padded envelope marked “SUBMISSION” making sure you identify your film clearly and include any reference details acquired from Without A Box…check the rules and regulations in the next section of this menu.
If you are sending us DVDs for the CFSFF 2012 “Best Young Filmmaker”, please mark your envelope CFSFF 2012 “Best Young Filmmaker” followed by the address below.
Please ensure that you apply the correct postage. From outside the island of Ireland, you need a European postage rate stamp and an airmail sticker.
